Parents Guide to Cub Scouts

Life as a Cub Scout is fun, adventurous and rewarding

As a Cub Scout, your child will  join their Cub Pack on exciting  adventures, discovering hidden  talents and exploring the world  around them.  Cubs is the second section  of the Scouting Movement  for 8 to 10 ½ year olds. In this  section, excitement and  adventure are key. The Cub  Scout Programme offers Cub  Scouts a huge variety of  activities, indoors and outdoors,  allowing them to be creative  and get involved in their  local communities. After a few weeks, your child will  be ‘invested’. This is when they  promise to do their best and help  others.

Earn badges, get active and embrace the challenge

We believe that young people  learn by doing, so our Cub Scout  Programme is packed full of  amazing activities to engage  and challenge Cub Scouts of  all abilities.  You can expect your child  to get involved in: • camps • water activities • nature walks • cooking • crafts • sports • and many more… The costs of Scouting will vary  depending on your Group. Ask  your Leader about costs and if  needed, any support available.

The Cub Scout Promise

The Cub Scout Promise  helps Cubs to understand  and remember the values  of Scouting. Every young person and Leader  makes their Promise as part of  being invested into Scouting.  Speak to your Leader to find  out more about investiture.  Why not help your child to  choose the Promise that's  right for them?

For Hindus and Buddhists

I promise that I will  do my best to do my duty to my Dharma and to the Queen, to help other people and to keep the Cub  Scout Law.

 For Muslims

I promise that I will do  my best to do my duty to Allah and to the Queen, to help other people and to keep the Cub  Scout Law.

For humanists, atheists and  those with no defined faith

I promise that I will do  my best to uphold our Scout values, to do my duty to the Queen, to help other people and to keep the Cub  Scout Law.

For Christians, Jews  and Sikhs

I promise that I will do my best  to do my duty to God and to the Queen, to help other  people and to keep the Cub  Scout Law.

For subjects of independent  Commonwealth countries, foreign nationals and individuals who are stateless, the following  wording can replace ‘duty  to the Queen’ …to do my duty to the country  in which I am now living.

Peace of mind

To ensure your child is  safe, Leaders adhere to  our anti-bullying, equal  opportunities, safety and  child protection policies.  Cub Scouts take part in activities  and learn new skills under the  supervision of adult volunteers.  They work effectively and safely  with young people to deliver the  Scouting Programme and have  access to training to support  them in their role. If you have any questions, get  in touch with your local Leader.

Skills for life

As a Cub Scout, your  child will learn a variety  of character-building  skills including; leadership, teamwork, problem solving, communication and responsibility.
